Abstract
The increase in environmental conflicts has coincided with the criminalization of protest and social movements, revealing a growing tension between citizens and capitalist development. This article analyzes the relationship between Mexican environmental movements and the concept of environmental citizenship. Here, how environmental struggles inscribe in citizenship discourses was investigated through a brief journey across the history of Mexico's environmental movements in recent decades. Finally, considering the way how the political imaginary has transformed around the environment.
