Analysis of the Ecuadorian Mango Producer and Exporter Sector Under the Sustainability Approach, Period 2014-2018

Abstract

This study's objective was to analyze the mango producer and exporter sector, considering the economic, social, and environmental dimensions. The research is exploratory because we examined a little-studied problem. Documentary and field techniques were used, such as interviews with representatives of mango exporting companies, to collect information from primary sources to determine the industry's current conditions. The results revealed that, regarding the economic dimension, the export earnings of the studied companies increased. However, there are irregularities in declared earnings. Concerning the social dimension, there are difficulties for the generation of permanent jobs and social equity. Finally, in the environmental dimension, it could be concluded that, even though companies have implemented activities to preserve the environment, there are still problems with proper waste management.
