Abstract
This paper analyzes the establishment, declaration and management of natural protected areas (NPA) by official institutions in territories occupied by indigenous peoples. Problems and benefits of NPA environmental policy are addressed, as well as the historical occupation of areas with a high ecological value which still have remnants of original ecosystems and their biodiversity.
